Washington DC Sports Betting Sees Mixed Results in March
Washington DC experienced an uptick in sports betting handle in March, registering a 30.8% increase from February with wagers totaling $15.7 million.
Despite this month-on-month growth, the handle still reflects a 13.3% decline compared to March of the previous year, when sports bets totaled $18.1 million.
Revenue Trends Show Similar Pattern
Sports betting revenue in DC also showed growth in March, rising to $1.4 million from $1.2 million in February. However, similar to the handle, this revenue figure fell short of the performance in the same month last year, which saw $2.3 million in sports betting revenue.
Caesars maintained its lead in the DC market, outperforming other operators with $655,302 in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in March, significantly higher than GambetDC’s $394,223 despite GambetDC handling more bets. BetMGM and FanDuel followed, with FanDuel reporting notably lower figures in both handle and GGR.
Transition in DC’s Online Sports Betting
March also marked significant developments for DC’s sports betting landscape. The DC Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) announced the phasing out of GambetDC, which has been managed by Intralot.
FanDuel will take over the sports betting platform, setting the stage for substantial changes in how online betting is managed in the region. This transition includes the replacement of GambetDC kiosks with FanDuel products at physical locations.
