Ohio Sports Betting Revenue Climbs to $73.9 Million in April

In April 2024, Ohio’s sports betting revenue reached $73.9 million, marking a notable increase of 15.8% from the previous month’s $63.8 million.

Online Betting Dominates

Online sports betting was the primary driver of this revenue, contributing $72.8 million, which accounts for 98.5% of the total. In contrast, retail betting brought in $1.1 million.

Despite the rise in revenue, the total betting handle in April saw a decrease, dropping 16.7% to $673.2 million from March’s $808.2 million.

During the month, Ohio operators paid out $593.1 million in winnings, and promotional spending amounted to $20.1 million. Compared to the same period last year, the handle increased by 29.3%, and revenue was up by 16.7%.

Market Leaders and Legal Concerns

FanDuel: Leading the market, FanDuel reported an online handle of $226.7 million and generated $34 million in revenue.

DraftKings: DraftKings followed with a handle of $216.8 million and revenue of $20.8 million.

Bet365: Bet365 ranked third with a handle of $48.9 million and $5.1 million in revenue.

BetMGM and ESPN Bet: BetMGM and ESPN Bet reported handles of $45.2 million and $35.8 million, respectively.

In April, Dave & Busters announced plans to allow betting among its adult rewards customers, raising concerns with the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

The commission is investigating whether the proposed betting at the six Ohio Dave & Busters locations would violate state laws. Similarly, in Illinois, Representative Dan Didech introduced the “Family Wagering Prohibition Act” to prevent establishments like Dave & Busters from offering wagering.
