14.03.2024

GeoComply, a leading provider of geolocation solutions, has shed light on the rapidly growing sports betting market in North Carolina, with impressive data emerging just days after the state’s online sports betting launch.

Since March 11, when North Carolina officially went live with eight online sportsbooks, GeoComply has recorded a staggering 5.3 million geolocation checks across nearly 370,000 sportsbook accounts.

North Carolina’s Sports Betting Debut: A Promising Start

The initial figures provided by GeoComply suggest that North Carolina’s foray into online sports betting is off to a robust start, surpassing expectations set by lawmakers when they legalized the activity last year. Lindsay Slader, GeoComply’s Senior Vice President of Compliance, expressed optimism about the state’s potential in the market, highlighting the well-structured approach to mobile sports betting that ensures consumer safety and opens up new revenue streams.

The data also reveals an interesting dynamic between North Carolina and its neighboring state, Virginia, which launched its online sports betting market in January 2021. In the days following North Carolina’s launch, Virginia saw just over 2 million geolocation checks from 134,000 accounts, indicating the significant impact North Carolina’s entry has had on the regional market.

Another noteworthy trend is the interest from South Carolina residents in North Carolina’s sports betting offerings. GeoComply reported that since the launch, there have been 6,175 accounts from South Carolina attempting to access North Carolina’s sportsbooks, underscoring the cross-border appeal of the Tar Heel State’s betting market.
