Jim Ananich Named MGCB Chair by Gov. Whitmer
Governor Gretchen Whitmer appoints Jim Ananich as Michigan Gaming Control Board Chair, effective April 25, 2025, to lead gaming regulation through 2028.

A New Leader for Michigan Gaming
Governor Gretchen Whitmer appointed Jim Ananich of Flint as the new Chair of the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), replacing Linda Forte.
“Jim Ananich is a proven leader with a long-standing commitment to public service and the people of Michigan,” said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. Ananich, a Democrat, will serve until December 31, 2028, pending Michigan Senate approval.
Ananich brings a solid track record from his time as Michigan Senate Minority Leader, State Representative, and Flint City Council President.
Experience to Steer the Board
With a bachelor’s in political economy from Michigan State and a master’s in educational administration from the University of Michigan, Ananich started as a high school social studies teacher.
“His legislative experience, strategic insight, and collaborative approach make him exceptionally well-suited to lead the Board,” Williams said.
Ananich’s advisory role with the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan highlights his community focus. The MGCB, with five members appointed by the governor, ensures no more than three share a political party.
Ananich joins Joni M. Thrower Davis, Mark Evenson, Deidre A. Lambert-Bounds, and Andrew T. Palms, needing three for a quorum.
Williams acknowledged Forte’s contributions, saying, “On behalf of the entire Board and staff, I also want to thank Linda Forte for her steady leadership and dedicated service over the past several years.”
Forte’s work strengthened responsible gaming and navigated industry growth. Her term saw 40+ cease-and-desist orders against illegal operators, setting a high bar for Ananich.
