Caesars Entertainment Funds Campaign Against Missouri Sports Betting Legalization
Caesars Entertainment has taken a public stance against the legalization of regulated sports betting in Missouri by financially supporting an opposition campaign.
Details of the Opposition Effort
The company’s retail casinos in the state have contributed $4 million to the “Missourians Against the Deceptive Online Gambling Amendment” campaign, according to a filing with the Missouri Ethics Committee.
The campaign opposing sports betting launched earlier this month with the goal of preventing a referendum from appearing on the November ballot. If allowed, the referendum would enable Missouri voters to decide whether to legalize sports wagering within the state.
Contrast with Industry Competitors
In contrast to Caesars’ position, other major players in the industry like FanDuel and DraftKings are actively supporting the legalization effort.
These companies have contributed over $10 million to “Winning for Missouri Education,” a coalition that includes six professional sports teams.
The coalition has successfully gathered more than 340,000 signatures to secure a vote on sports betting legalization.
