VGW Raises Age Limit for Sweepstakes Casinos

19.02.2025

VGW is increasing the minimum age requirement for its sweepstakes casinos Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker from 18 to 21 years old. Sweepsy.com reports that this change, effective February 19, 2025, aims to address responsible gaming concerns and growing regulatory scrutiny across the U.S.

How VGW Is Implementing the Age Increase

VGW has outlined a phased rollout for these restrictions:

  • February 12, 2025 – Players aged 18-20 lost the ability to buy Gold Coin packages.
  • February 19, 2025 – Those under 21 can no longer play games or redeem Sweeps Coins.
  • April 17, 2025 – VGW will fully restrict access for players under 21. Affected users must contact customer support after turning 21 to regain account access.

Why VGW Is Raising the Age Limit

VGW made this decision to promote responsible gambling and preempt legislative action.

Lawmakers in Connecticut, Maryland, and Mississippi are considering banning sweepstakes casinos, while New York is debating an online casino bill that could exclude them from the market. By acting now, VGW hopes to demonstrate its commitment to player protection and industry self-regulation.

Raising the age limit also aligns VGW’s policies with traditional casino standards, where the legal gambling age is 21+. Younger players are statistically more vulnerable to gambling-related harm, making this an important step toward consumer protection.

VGW will lose some players by enforcing this restriction, but the company seems to view this as a strategic trade-off.

Strengthening its responsible gaming policies may help avoid stricter government intervention while reinforcing its reputation as a trustworthy gaming operator.
