17.12.2024

Vermont’s sports betting market showed solid gains in November 2024, with a total handle of $18.4 million—a 6.3% increase from October’s $17.3 million.

A Turnaround for Operators

November revenues surged by 94%, climbing to $2.05 million compared to $1.06 million the previous month. The tax contributions from sports betting for the month totaled $653,891, reinforcing Vermont’s growing success in the regulated sports betting landscape.

November’s sharp increase in revenue followed a challenging October for Vermont’s sportsbooks, where bettors achieved better-than-average outcomes.

In October, operators held only 6.1% of the handle as revenue. However, November brought a turnaround, with sportsbooks improving their hold to 11.2%.

Football Leads the Charge

Football continued to dominate the Vermont sports betting market in November, accounting for $6.2 million in total wagers. The NFL season, combined with popular college football matchups, drove most of this activity.

Basketball followed closely behind as the second-most popular sport, generating $5 million in handle. No other sport managed to hit the $1 million mark, but tennis came closest with $950,000 in wagers.

The top five sports by handle for November were:

  • Football: $6.2 million
  • Basketball: $5 million
  • Tennis: $950,000
  • Soccer: $730,000
  • Table Tennis: $576,000

In-State Bettors Dominate

A closer look at player activity shows an interesting shift in November. The number of active bettors residing in Vermont grew from 16,790 in October to 17,545 in November. Meanwhile, the number of out-of-state players crossing into Vermont to place bets dropped to 10,800, down from 12,471 the previous month.

In total, Vermont residents wagered $13.9 million, while visitors contributed an additional $4.5 million to the overall handle. The average bet size also increased, rising from $21 to $23 month-over-month, signaling increased confidence and engagement among bettors.
