Twitch Tightens Content Regulations on Gambling Streams

On May 21st, Twitch announced enhanced regulations aimed at controlling gambling-related content on its platform.

New Content Filtering Features

This initiative is part of a broader campaign to protect users and align with regulatory standards.

The new features include blocking gambling-related streams for visitors who are not logged into the platform. Sexual themes are also subject to these stringent controls, making them the only other category with such restrictions.

Evolution of Content Classification

Twitch has expanded its Content Classification Labels (CCLs), introduced in December, which are now integral to its content filtering system.

Initially providing information, CCLs now allow users to customize their viewing preferences by filtering out specific content categories, including gambling and sexual themes.

For visitors not logged in, streams featuring gambling or sexual content are automatically filtered out from recommendations, search results, and browsing lists.

Previews of streams with sexual themes are also blurred by default, further enhancing the platform’s safety measures.
