Texas Lottery Has Second-Best Year Ever with $8.39 Billion in Sales
The Texas Lottery had its second-best year ever in 2024 with $8.39 billion in sales of scratch tickets and draw games like Mega Millions and Powerball. Those sales translated to $2.007 billion for public education and veterans’ services – $1.98 billion for the Foundation School Fund and $26.8 million for the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance.
Scratch-Offs Rule
Scratch tickets were the biggest sellers, accounting for $6.6 billion or 79.2% of total sales. Loteria-themed scratch tickets were the hottest, generating $1.603 billion in sales and 24.1% of overall sales.
Seven of the top 15 best-selling scratch-offs were Loteria-themed and the Loteria Supreme $100 scratch game was the second-best-selling game of the year.
Despite a 1.26% decline in scratch ticket sales, Texas was #1 in scratch ticket sales for the first time ever. The state also saw a big jump in $100 scratch ticket sales which generated $669.7 million or 10.1% of total scratch-off sales.
More for Key Programs
The Texas Lottery’s revenue transfer program has sent over $33.7 billion to public education and over $248 million to Texas veterans since 1997.
This is the second year in a row the lottery has sent over $2 billion to these programs. Over the past five years the agency has seen sales growth of $1.686 billion or 25.2%.
The Texas Lottery also has several initiatives underway including a Sunset Review and a responsible gambling campaign.
The campaign launched in August 2024 is to promote responsible play and remind players that lottery tickets are not for minors through social media, email and in-store messaging.
