Sports Betting Growth in Louisiana Sees 30% Increase in September

In September, Louisiana’s sports betting industry saw total wagers reaching $351 million, according to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. This is a 30% increase compared to the same period last year.

Mobile Betting Dominates the Market

Mobile betting continues to lead the market, contributing $320 million of the total wagers, a 28.6% rise from the previous year.

Retail sportsbooks, although a smaller part of the overall market, saw a modest increase, with $31.6 million wagered, marking a 1.3% growth.

Sports betting in Louisiana generated strong revenue figures, with online betting bringing in nearly $47.2 million, while retail sportsbooks added $5.3 million.

This contributed approximately $7.7 million to the state in tax revenue for the month, reflecting the growing financial impact of sports betting on Louisiana’s economy.

New Regulations and Future Trends

Earlier this year, Louisiana implemented a ban on prop betting for individual college athletes, a move aimed at protecting athletes and maintaining the integrity of the games.

Bettors can still place wagers on broader categories like game outcomes and team performances, but the new regulation highlights the state’s focus on responsible gambling practices.
