Rhode Island Sees Sports Betting Growth in March Handle
Rhode Island’s sports betting market experienced a healthy boost in March, with total wagers reaching $44.9 million, marking an 8.2% increase from March 2023, and a 15.7% rise from the previous month.
The state recorded $3.1 million in sports betting revenue during the month, with a portion of the action taking place online.
Online Betting Dominates the Market
Online sports betting continues to be the preferred choice among bettors in Rhode Island, with $37 million wagered through digital platforms.
The online activity contributed $2.5 million to the total revenue. In contrast, land-based sportsbooks, which include Twin River and Tiverton Casino, saw $7.8 million in bets, translating to $604,093 in revenue.
Performance of Individual Casinos
Twin River led in retail bets with $5.6 million, while Tiverton Casino followed with $2.2 million. Despite the higher volume of bets at Twin River, it posted $386,363 in revenue, compared to Tiverton Casino’s $217,730. Overall, players won a total of $41.8 million—$34.5 million from online betting and $7.2 million from retail sportsbooks.
From the start of the fiscal year to March, Rhode Island’s total sports betting handle amounted to $350.8 million, with online bets accounting for $278.1 million of this total.
Retail betting contributed the remaining $72.8 million. The total revenue accumulated over this period was $29.8 million.
