The overall gaming revenue in Pennsylvania surged by 9% year-on-year, totaling nearly $500 million, propelled by the robust performance of iGaming slots and table games.

Pennsylvania’s iGaming Landscape Flourishes

Despite a slight decline in traditional gaming areas, the Pennsylvanian Gaming Control Board’s (PGCB) recent report highlights a thriving iGaming sector. Retail slot machines, a longstanding revenue leader, saw a marginal decrease, yet the spotlight has shifted towards the explosive growth of online slots and table games. iGaming slots revenue soared by 35.6%, reaching $125.9 million, while internet table games doubled their earnings to $56.6 million, marking a 56.7% increase.

Diverse Performances Across Gaming Sectors

While iGaming sectors celebrated gains, online poker and sports wagering revenues faced setbacks. Online poker witnessed an 8.3% revenue dip, settling at $2.4 million. Similarly, the sports wagering segment encountered a 30% decline in taxable revenue, despite an overall annual revenue increase.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course emerged as a leading operator, boasting a 36.8% year-on-year iGaming revenue increase to $77.3 million. Valley Forge Casino Resort and Rivers Casino Philadelphia also made significant contributions, with revenues of $44.8 million and $29.3 million, respectively.

Challenges in Fantasy Contests and VGTs

The Fantasy Contest sector experienced a 5% revenue decrease from the previous year, while Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) saw a modest 2.4% decline. Despite these challenges, the PGCB notes that all VGT Operators maximized their offerings, maintaining five machines at 72 qualified truck stop establishments.

Amid these developments, the PGCB is actively promoting gambling awareness, highlighting its efforts to address problem gambling and ensuring a responsible gaming environment.
