Diverse Revenue Streams Fuel Growth

Pennsylvania’s booming gaming industry includes multiple revenue streams, from slot machines and table games to sports wagering, internet gaming, fantasy sports contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs).

With 17 land-based casinos, 18 retail sports wagering locations, and 22 online casino platforms, the state continues to expand its gaming operations, ensuring a diverse range of options for players.

Additionally, 74 truck stops with VGTs and 9 fantasy sports contest sites have contributed to this record-breaking revenue.

Commitment to Regulation and Player Protection

Despite this remarkable growth, PGCB Chair Denise J. Smyler emphasized the agency’s ongoing dedication to maintaining strict regulatory oversight.

“The PGCB ensures games are properly regulated and fair, and that tools are easily available to assist those who develop adverse gambling habits,” said Smyler.

The PGCB remains focused on upholding the integrity of gaming operations while protecting citizens from gambling-related harms.

Economic Contributions and Job Creation

The report also highlighted the significant economic benefits brought by the gaming industry, which supports nearly 16,000 jobs, with 89.8% of those positions held by Pennsylvania residents.

The revenue generated has been directed toward vital state programs, such as reducing school property taxes and supporting the agricultural sector, particularly horse and harness racing.

Additionally, local economic development projects have benefited from the industry’s financial contributions.

Focus on Diversity and Inclusion

The PGCB’s 17th Annual Diversity Report underscores the gaming industry’s commitment to inclusive hiring practices.

Of the workforce employed in Pennsylvania’s casinos, 41.4% are racial minorities, and 41.6% are women.

The report also revealed that of the $1.05 billion spent by casinos on various purchases, more than half (50.8%) was directed toward local businesses.

Mozelle E. Daniels, Director of Diversity for the PGCB, highlighted the industry’s focus on talent development and workplace flexibility.

“The casinos have developed and implemented strategies to recruit, hire, and retain employees,” said Daniels, noting that these initiatives contribute to the industry’s resilience and long-term success.

Efforts to Address Problem Gambling

The PGCB continues to prioritize responsible gambling through its Self-Exclusion Program, which offers essential resources to those dealing with gambling-related problems.

Ongoing awareness efforts and enhanced tools for players demonstrate the Board’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of gaming do not come at the cost of public welfare.
