Mississippi Sports Betting Sees Decline Yet Improves from February

Mississippi Gaming Commission released its sports betting figures for March 2024, revealing a downturn in revenue compared to the previous year but a notable rebound from February’s low performance.

The total revenue for March stood at $3.4 million, marking a 30% decrease from March 2023, yet it still represented a substantial 47% improvement from February 2024.

Regional Breakdown of Betting Activity

In Mississippi, the coastal region emerged as the most active, with $30.1 million wagered in total. This surge was driven by an impressive 3,3% increase in football betting.

The coastal area not only showed a modest rise in baseball bets and parlays but also faced a decline in basketball wagering and other bets.

Despite these mixed outcomes, the region generated $1.89 million in taxable revenue.

Central and Northern Regions Face Challenges

Central Mississippi, despite experiencing a significant 158% increase in football betting, saw a sharp 87% decline in baseball, parlays, and other sports wagers.

The region managed a total handle of $8.86 million but only yielded $1 million in revenue, reflecting the challenges in diversifying betting activities.

In contrast, Northern Mississippi reported lower engagement, with a total handle of $5.5 million and revenue of just $468,000. The region recorded declines across all major betting categories, indicating ongoing struggles in its gaming market.
