23.02.2024

The Michigan Gaming Control Board recently revealed that iGaming revenue in January 2024 reached a new record high, marginally surpassing the previous record set in December 2023.

January’s iGaming revenue hit $181.7 million, a slight 0.3% increase over December’s $181.4 million, showcasing the growing popularity and engagement in online gaming within the state.

Sports Betting Trends

In contrast to the steady rise in iGaming, mobile sports betting experienced fluctuations. January’s total mobile sports betting handle was $577.4 million, closely trailing behind December’s $583 million. Despite the high volume of bets placed, gross sports betting receipts saw a significant decline, totaling $47.7 million in January, marking a 22% decrease from December’s $61.1 million.

Combining both iGaming and mobile sports betting, Michigan’s adjusted gross receipts for January stood at $183 million. This figure includes $164.2 million from iGaming and $18.8 million from mobile sports betting, indicating a 0.5% increase in iGaming and a 46.5% decrease in mobile sports betting compared to previous months.

Fiscal Contributions

The financial implications of Michigan’s robust iGaming and sports betting markets are substantial. Online gaming operators contributed a total of $31.3 million in taxes for January alone.

Additionally, tribal operators made significant payments to governing bodies, amounting to $3.6 million in the same period.
