Michigan Woman Wins $2M Top Prize from Colossal Cashword
A 33-year-old Kalamazoo County woman has won a life changing $2 million after buying a scratch off ticket from the Michigan Lottery. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the $30 Colossal Cashword ticket at Hoffman’s Corner Store in Portage and is the first to win the game’s top prize.
Unexpected Win
She bought the ticket and after scratching off the barcode handed it back to the store clerk to scan.
The message to file a claim appeared, she must have won big; you have to go to the Lottery office!
The woman later scratched off the whole ticket at home and found she had won the $2 million top prize by scratching off 10 words.
Lump Sum Payout
Like other big winners, she had the option of taking the prize in annuity or lump sum.
She chose the latter and took home about $1.3 million.
When asked what she plans to do with the winnings she said she will pay off bills and save the rest for her kids.
Instant Games Popularity
Suzanna Shkreli, Michigan Lottery Commissioner, said instant games like Colossal Cashword are popular.
“In the last fiscal year, instant games accounted for $2.3 billion of Lottery’s sales, leading to a sixth straight contribution of more than $1 billion to the School Aid Fund,” Shkreli said.
Colossal Cashword Prizes Remaining
The $2 million prize won by the Kalamazoo County woman is the first top prize from Colossal Cashword. Two $2 million and 13 of the 23 $10,000 prizes remain.
The game gives players a chance to win $30 to $2 million with overall odds of 1 in 3.44.
This big win has changed her life and proves instant games are still popular with the Michigan Lottery.
