Michigan Targets MyBookie.ag in Crackdown on Illegal Online Gambling

27.01.2025

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has turned its attention to MyBookie.ag, an online gambling platform operated by Duranbah Limited N.V. and based in Curaçao. The board issued a cease-and-desist letter, citing the platform’s unlicensed gambling activities that violated Michigan’s strict gaming laws.

Unlicensed Operations Draw Scrutiny

MyBookie.ag, known for its array of offerings including casino games, poker, live-dealer games, and sports betting, has allegedly been accessible to Michigan residents despite lacking the required licensing. Henry Williams, Executive Director of the MGCB, emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting the public and maintaining the integrity of the state’s gaming industry.

“Our investigation into MyBookie.ag found that their operations were accessible to Michigan citizens, which violates state laws. We are taking strong action to uphold the principles of fair and legal gaming.” Williams stated.

MyBookie.ag provides various deposit methods, including major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, as well as PayPal and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. However, withdrawals are limited to Bitcoin or bank wire transfers, a practice often associated with unregulated gambling platforms.

Violations of Michigan Law

The MGCB identified several legal breaches by MyBookie.ag, including:

  • Lawful Internet Gaming Act: Permits online gaming only through licensed operators tied to Michigan’s regulated casinos.
  • Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act: Operating without an MGCB-issued license constitutes a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $100,000, or both.
  • Michigan Penal Code: Prohibits gambling activities that involve chance, a prize, and monetary stakes without state authorization.

Duranbah Limited N.V. has 14 days to comply with the cease-and-desist order and halt services for Michigan residents. Should the platform fail to act, the MGCB is prepared to escalate the matter, working alongside the Michigan Attorney General’s Office to pursue legal action.
