Michigan Gaming Control Board Receives Funding Boost for FY2025
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) is set to receive a significant increase in resources for the fiscal year 2025, following an agreement by the Michigan Legislature to allocate $1.9 million from the state’s budget.

Enhanced Regulatory and Responsible Gaming Efforts
This funding will enable the MGCB to add 14 full-time staff positions, enhancing its regulatory capacity and efforts to combat illegal wagering in the state’s thriving sports betting and iGaming markets.
The new funding will bolster the MGCB’s regulatory framework, ensuring that Michigan’s gaming industry operates within the bounds of the law.
Additionally, the MGCB is directing fresh capital towards responsible gaming (RG) initiatives, reflecting a commitment to mitigating the negative impacts of gambling.
Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund
The Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund will receive a $3 million increase, doubling the MGCB’s contribution from $3 million in FY2024 to $6 million in FY2025. This fund supports a range of initiatives, including:
24/7 Gambling Disorder Helpline: Operated by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, the helpline provides round-the-clock support for individuals struggling with gambling disorders.
Gambling Research: Funds will be directed towards research aimed at understanding and addressing gambling addiction.
Treatment Options: Enhancements to existing treatment programs to better support those affected by compulsive gambling.
Educational Tools: Development and dissemination of educational resources aimed at preventing gambling issues among children.
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams emphasized the importance of these initiatives: “The MGCB’s increased contribution, from $3 million to $6 million, to the Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund demonstrates our proactive approach towards responsible gaming. Together, we are safeguarding the integrity of the industry while prioritizing the well-being of Michigan citizens.”
