The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken action against BetNow for operating illegal online gambling services in the state. The agency issued a cease-and-desist order, giving the company 14 days to stop serving Michigan residents. If BetNow fails to comply, legal action could follow.

Why Is BetNow in Trouble?

An MGCB investigation revealed that BetNow violated multiple state laws, including:

  • The Lawful Internet Gaming Act, which regulates online gambling in Michigan.
  • The Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, which governs all legal gambling in the state.
  • The Michigan Penal Code, which prohibits unauthorized gaming operations.

Since BetNow operated without a license, it failed to meet state-mandated consumer protection and responsible gaming standards. As a result, players faced increased risks, including unsecured transactions and no guaranteed payouts.

Potential Legal Consequences for BetNow

If BetNow ignores the cease-and-desist order, MGCB will escalate the case by working with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. Under Michigan law, illegal gambling operations can lead to up to 10 years in prison, fines of up to $100,000, or both.

BetNow provided Michigan players with a wide range of gambling options, including slot games, poker, and live dealer games such as blackjack, roulette, and craps. Additionally, the platform accepted bets on sports events and horse racing, directly competing with regulated sportsbooks and casinos.

The MGCB’s enforcement action sends a clear message. The agency urges players to stick to licensed operators, which offer state-approved security, fair play, and responsible gambling protections. Furthermore, officials encourage residents to report any illegal gambling activities to help protect Michigan’s gaming industry.
