MGM Resorts and BetMGM Expand Responsible Gaming Efforts with Key Partnerships

In recognition of Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have announced expanded collaborations with leading research institutes and advocacy groups. Their goal is to provide better support for individuals affected by problem gambling while strengthening industry-wide initiatives.

Funding Research for Safer Gaming

MGM Resorts is donating $180,000 to the Kindbridge Research Institute to support studies on the impact of sports betting. These studies will examine various player demographics and help develop responsible gaming strategies.

Stephen Martino, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at MGM Resorts, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and player protection. “As a global gaming and hospitality leader, we are always looking to support innovative and actionable research that can make a positive impact. As our company continues to grow both domestically and internationally, these studies will allow us to support our industry and enhance the sustainability of communities in which we operate.”

BetMGM is expanding its partnership with Kindbridge Behavioral Health to ensure all players in jurisdictions where BetMGM operates have direct access to specialized mental health services.

Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM, highlighted the importance of player protection, stating: “Responsible gaming is a focal point of our operations, and we will continue to invest in programs that promote player protection and well-being. Expanding our partnership with Kindbridge ensures that essential support services are always within reach for those who need it.”

Enhanced Responsible Gaming Messaging

MGM Resorts and BetMGM are working with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to increase responsible gaming messaging on digital platforms and in retail sportsbooks.

The initiative will include GameSense reminders, QR codes for responsible gaming tips, and trained advisors available at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks nationwide.

The GameSense program, first introduced by BCLC and licensed to MGM Resorts in 2017, encourages proactive and transparent conversations about responsible gambling.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM are expanding their outreach to universities, engaging with students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

Through collaboration with the William S. Boyd School of Law, students will gain real-world exposure to responsible gaming regulations and the GameSense program.

Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs at UNLV, emphasized that these sessions help students understand the critical role responsible gaming plays in shaping the industry’s future. “Our collaboration with MGM Resorts has been a valuable learning experience for Boyd law students, enhancing their understanding of gaming regulations through real-world exposure. Exploring the GameSense program firsthand helps them grasp the importance of responsible gaming, especially as more jurisdictions require such important initiatives,” she said.

Additional Commitments to Responsible Gaming

Beyond these initiatives, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are making further commitments:

  • MGM Resorts is contributing $60,000 to State Councils on Problem Gambling to support advocacy and prevention programs.
  • BetMGM is renewing its partnership with EPIC Global Solutions to provide lived-experience education sessions for all employees.
  • Both companies are reinforcing employee training on responsible gaming practices.
  • MGM Resorts and BetMGM continue to support the American Gaming Association’s “Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™” public service campaign.

With these expanded efforts, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are reinforcing their commitment to responsible gaming, ensuring players and employees have the resources needed to maintain a safe and sustainable gaming environment.
