Massachusetts Sports Betting Hits Record $96.4M in Revenue for January
Massachusetts’ sports betting industry set new records in January 2025, posting its highest monthly revenue since online betting launched in March 2023. Sportsbooks reported $96.4 million in gross revenue, surpassing the previous record set in November 2024 by nearly $14 million. The state’s betting handle also reached an impressive $763 million.

Breaking Down the Numbers
Massachusetts saw a total betting handle of $762.5 million, with $751.4 million coming from online sportsbooks and just $11.1 million from retail locations.
The state collected $18.7 million in tax revenue, benefiting from a 12.6% hold rate. Compared to January 2024, sports betting revenue jumped 32.6%.
Since legal sports betting began, Massachusetts has collected $241.3 million in taxes and fees. In January alone, the state’s total gaming revenue, including casinos, reached $192.3 million, generating $46.6 million in gaming taxes.
Top Operators and Market Leaders
The Massachusetts market remains competitive, with DraftKings leading all sportsbooks. The Boston-based company dominated the state’s betting landscape, reporting a $377.1 million handle and $52.7 million in revenue.
FanDuel followed as the second-largest operator, handling $217.3 million in wagers and earning $29.3 million in revenue. Other sportsbooks also performed well, though on a smaller scale:
- BetMGM: $63.2 million handle, $5.6 million revenue
- Fanatics Sportsbook: $37.8 million handle, $3.6 million revenue
- ESPN BET: $28.4 million handle, $2.4 million revenue
- Caesars Sportsbook: $23 million handle, $1.3 million revenue
In total, the seven online operators generated $751.6 million in handle and $95.4 million in revenue.
