Massachusetts Online Sports Betting Sees Revenue Fluctuations in April

Massachusetts’ online sports betting market generated $49.4 million in revenue for April 2024.

This figure represents a 15.7% decrease compared to the same month last year. However, on a month-to-month basis, April’s revenue was an improvement, showing an 8.5% increase over March’s $45.5 million.

Betting Handle and Trends

The total handle for online sports betting in April was $591.5 million, marking a slight year-on-year increase of 4.4% from $566.2 million in April 2023.

Despite this annual growth, the handle experienced a 7.9% decline from March’s $642.3 million, indicating some monthly volatility.

Tax Revenue Insights

The state of Massachusetts collected $9.9 million in tax revenue from mobile betting in April. This amount was 8.5% higher than the $9.1 million collected in March but showed a 15.7% decrease from the $11.7 million collected in April of the previous year.

While there are fluctuations in month-to-month and year-to-year comparisons, the overall trend shows sustained interest and participation in online sports wagering. The increase in the betting handle year-on-year suggests a growing user base, even as monthly figures fluctuate.
