Massachusetts Governor Appoints Jordan Maynard as Chair of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission

29.10.2024

Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts has appointed Jordan Maynard as the permanent Chair of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), elevating him from his previous role as Interim Chair.

Leadership Changes at the Massachusetts Gaming Commission

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has seen two significant changes to its leadership. First, Jordan Maynard, who had served as Interim Chair since March, has now been appointed as the permanent Chair.

Second, former Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur has joined the commission as a new commissioner, filling the vacancy left by former Chair Cathy Judd-Stein.

Maynard’s appointment follows nearly eight months as Interim Chair, during which Governor Healey praised him for his “strong leadership” and “in-depth understanding of the agency.”

Maynard, who joined MGC in 2022, is regarded as a rising star in the gaming regulatory field. He was recognized among the 100 most influential figures in the U.S. gaming industry by U.S. iGaming Hub’s Game Masters and was named one of the Emerging Leaders of Gaming 40 Under 40 by Innovation Group in 2025.

Paul Brodeur, who served as Mayor of Melrose for six years until 2024, also brings a wealth of management experience and consensus-building skills to MGC.

Governor Healey praised Brodeur’s “ability to unite people” and “achieve results in the face of challenging issues.” Brodeur expressed his admiration for MGC’s work and pledged his commitment to advancing the commission’s mission of supporting Massachusetts’s gaming sector.

Structure of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission

The MGC is composed of five commissioners, with one appointed by the governor and another by the attorney general. The commissioner appointed by the attorney general must have a background in criminal investigations and law enforcement. The Chair of the MGC is appointed by the governor.

These leadership changes come at a pivotal time for Massachusetts’s gaming industry as the commission oversees the launch of legal sports betting and addresses regulatory issues, such as player betting limits. The expertise and leadership skills of Maynard and Brodeur are expected to be invaluable as MGC continues its work in regulating this growing sector.
