Louisiana Sees Growth in Sports Betting Handle and Revenue in March

Louisiana’s sports betting sector reported a notable increase in both handle and revenue in March, with figures showing substantial year-on-year and month-on-month growth.

Breakdown of Betting

Total sports betting handle for the state reached $350 million, marking a 41% increase compared to the same period last year, and a 27.4% rise from February’s $274.8 million.

The majority of the betting activity continues to be dominated by the online segment, with $319.4 million wagered through online sportsbooks, while $30.6 million was bet at retail locations.

Tax Contributions and Revenue

Revenue from sports betting also saw gains, totaling $33.8 million in March, which is up 17.8% year-on-year, and a 34.7% increase from February’s revenue of $25.1 million. Of this, online sports betting contributed $31.7 million, whereas retail sportsbooks added $2.1 million to the total revenue.

In terms of tax contributions, the state collected a total of $4.7 million from online betting and an additional $167,068 from retail betting.
