Light & Wonder Withdraws Copyright Lawsuit Against Zeroo Gravity Games
Light & Wonder has withdrawn its copyright lawsuit against Zeroo Gravity Games, initially claiming that Zeroo Gravity’s mobile game Three Stuffed Swine resembles their title, Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket.
Legal Dispute Background Between Light & Wonder and Zeroo Gravity
In July, Light & Wonder filed a copyright lawsuit against Zeroo Gravity Games, alleging that Three Stuffed Swine was a blatant copy of Rich Little Piggies.
Light & Wonder argued that Zeroo Gravity had replicated similar themes, concepts, and game mechanics. They also accused Zeroo Gravity of “literal” visual duplication.
The case proceeded in a California court, where Light & Wonder sought to have Three Stuffed Swine removed and requested damages from Zeroo Gravity.
Zeroo Gravity had until October 28 to respond to the initial complaint, but on October 25, Light & Wonder opted to withdraw the lawsuit.
Light & Wonder Withdraws the Lawsuit
The reason for Light & Wonder’s decision to withdraw the lawsuit remains undisclosed, though NEXT.io speculated that a settlement may have been reached. SBC Americas reached out to Light & Wonder for comment, but no response has been provided.
Zeroo Gravity had previously filed two extension requests for their response to the complaint, leading up to Light & Wonder’s decision to drop the case.
Light & Wonder’s lawsuit against Zeroo Gravity was one of two recent copyright disputes the company faced. In another case, Aristocrat claimed that Light & Wonder’s game Dragon Train copied elements from Aristocrat’s title Dragon Link.
The Aristocrat lawsuit concluded with Light & Wonder being required to halt Dragon Train sales in North America, a loss expected to cost the company millions.
