Light & Wonder Ignoring Court Orders Over “Dragon Train” Dispute? Aristocrat Raises Concerns

25.11.2024

Aristocrat has filed new documents alleging that Light & Wonder is not complying with a court order to remove the game “Dragon Train” from the market.

The Dispute Over “Dragon Train”

The conflict between Light & Wonder and Aristocrat began in February 2024 when Aristocrat filed a lawsuit against Light & Wonder in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.

The lawsuit alleges that Light & Wonder’s “Dragon Train” slot series is strikingly similar to Aristocrat’s “Dragon Link” series. Aristocrat also claims that Light & Wonder used its trade secrets to develop “Dragon Train” after hiring a former Aristocrat engineer, Emma Charles, who had worked on “Dragon Link.”

In response, the court issued an order prohibiting Light & Wonder from further commercializing “Dragon Train.” The court determined that Aristocrat had a strong likelihood of winning the case.

While Light & Wonder took steps to address the issue, including terminating Emma Charles, the company requested more time to remove “Dragon Train” from its systems, citing the complexity and time-consuming nature of the process.

However, Aristocrat contends that Light & Wonder has not fully complied with the court order and has failed to provide all required documents during the discovery process.

Issues Persist

Aristocrat asserts that Light & Wonder has not made sufficient efforts to identify all documents related to Aristocrat’s trade secrets.

The company argues that Light & Wonder’s disclosed search results for terms such as “Dragon Link,” “Lightning Link,” and “Golden Century” are inadequate, noting that it is common practice in the gaming industry to reuse elements from successful games in other titles.

Aristocrat further suggests that Emma Charles may have disclosed trade secrets for games beyond just “Dragon Link.”

Bragar Eagel & Squire, P.C., a national shareholder rights law firm, is investigating potential claims against Light & Wonder. The investigation focuses on whether Light & Wonder violated federal securities laws or engaged in other unlawful business practices.

The firm encourages investors who suffered losses related to Light & Wonder stock to come forward and participate in a potential class action lawsuit.

Bragar Eagel & Squire also highlighted that Light & Wonder’s stock price dropped by 19.5% following the announcement of the court order regarding “Dragon Train,” suggesting this decline could form the basis for legal claims.
