Iowa Sports Betting Sees Growth in April

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) reported a substantial year-over-year increase in the state’s sports betting handle for April, with figures reaching $209.5 million.

This represents a 21.4% increase compared to the same period last year, despite a 23.1% decrease from March’s $272 million.

Revenue and Operator Performance

Sportsbooks in Iowa experienced a 7.9% hold in April, translating into $16.5 million in adjusted gross sports betting revenue, marking a 17.1% increase from April 2023.

DraftKings led among operators with $6.2 million in revenue from a $73.1 million handle, followed closely by FanDuel, which reported earnings of $5.8 million from a $57.4 million handle. ESPN Bet also showed a notable performance with a $7.5 million handle.

Tax Contributions

The state benefitted from the thriving sports betting sector, collecting $1.1 million in tax receipts for the month.

This financial input supports various state-funded initiatives and reflects the growing importance of sports betting as a revenue source in Iowa.
