Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Greg Small to Step Down

Interim Leadership Appointed

Small, who has served as the agency’s leader for three years, previously worked as its general counsel for over six years. His departure comes at a time when the state is navigating challenges in its gambling regulatory framework.

Holcomb has appointed the agency’s current General Counsel, Dennis Mullen, as the interim Executive Director. Mullen, who has been with the commission since 2015, will serve in both capacities until a permanent director is named.

In his statement, Holcomb praised Small’s leadership, stating, “Greg’s knowledge and expertise has been invaluable in leading the Indiana Gaming Commission effectively and efficiently. The agency will be left in good hands with Dennis at the helm.”

Ongoing Challenges for the Indiana Gaming Commission

Small’s departure comes as the Indiana General Assembly continues to address issues related to a former lawmaker’s conviction in a casino fraud case.

This case led to the temporary suspension of all gambling-related legislation during the last session. Additionally, lawmakers have recently shifted how the commission’s fine collections are allocated after raising concerns over high casino penalties.
