Sportsbooks in Illinois generated £113.9 million in revenue in June from a handle of £950.2 million, with a record win rate of 12% and tax receipts rising to £42.8 million.

Record Revenue and Betting Trends

The Illinois Gaming Board reported that June revenues increased by 33% compared to the same month last year. Tax income more than tripled, reaching £42.8 million, reflecting the highest month for state collections since regulation began.

The record hold rate of 12% surpassed the previous high of 11% earlier in 2025. Basketball and baseball dominated betting activity: basketball wagers exceeded £130 million, up 32% year-on-year, while baseball reached £244.8 million. Parlays accounted for more than £277 million in handle.

By contrast, hockey and soccer saw declines. Hockey betting was down 16%, while soccer handle dropped by £5 million, partly due to the absence of major tournaments such as Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Market Leaders

DraftKings remained the top operator with £342.9 million in handle and £40 million in revenue.

FanDuel followed closely, reporting £41.4 million in revenue from £286.2 million in handle, supported by a 14.5% hold rate.

Caesars, Fanatics and others posted notable results but continued to trail the two leaders.

Impact of New Tax Rules

A new law came into force on July 1 introducing a per-wager tax of 25 cents for the first 20 million bets and 50 cents thereafter. In response, DraftKings and FanDuel both applied a 50-cent surcharge per bet, while Fanatics opted for a 25-cent fee.

Other operators, including BetMGM, Circa Sports, ESPN BET, BetRivers and Hard Rock Bet, have also adjusted minimum stakes or introduced additional charges to offset the new taxation. The rule change adds further cost pressure as Illinois’ sports betting market continues to expand.
