Google Updates Gambling Ads Policy: New Restrictions Take Effect in April
Google is tightening its gambling ad policies, introducing stricter definitions, tougher regional restrictions, and expanded certification requirements for advertisers promoting gambling-related content. The updated rules, set to take effect on April 14.

Stricter Definition of Gambling Content
The new policy will redefine gambling content by classifying any website that links to online gambling platforms or facilitates access to gambling services as gambling-related.
This includes affiliate websites and aggregation platforms, which may now only provide information or comparisons of licensed gambling operators. Google has also expanded its definition of online gambling to cover casino-style games that use virtual currencies or in-game items with real-world value, even if they do not offer direct cash payouts.
Instead of using broad regional guidelines, Google will now list specific countries where gambling ads are completely prohibited. Nations such as Bulgaria, China, and Egypt will appear in the updated policy.
To address regional concerns, Google has officially banned gambling-related Mahjong games in the Asia-Pacific region. While Mahjong remains a culturally significant game, its gambling variations have led to increased regulatory scrutiny.
New Certification Rules for Social Casino Games
Google now requires social casino game developers to obtain separate certification if they also promote real-money gambling.
Furthermore, developers cannot advertise real-money gambling within social casino games or on their websites. Any violations will result in immediate and permanent account suspensions.
License Compliance and Reporting Requirements
Gambling advertisers must now immediately report any changes to their licensing status. If a gambling license gets revoked, suspended, or terminated, advertisers must inform Google right away.
Those who try to run ads without valid documentation risk account suspension, as Google continues to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for non-compliance.
Google has also expanded its advertising policies to cover non-casino games that offer real-money rewards. If a game includes skill-based mechanics but still allows players to win cash prizes, it will now face gambling-related ad restrictions.
Google’s latest policy update signals a stronger crackdown on gambling ads. For gambling operators, affiliates, and game developers, these changes bring stricter oversight and an increased risk of permanent account suspensions
