GeoComply Reports 14% Surge in Legal Sports Betting During Super Bowl Weekend
Super Bowl weekend brought record-breaking engagement for legal sportsbooks in the U.S., with GeoComply reporting a 14% increase in active player accounts compared to last year’s game. The growth was even stronger in states that have taken legal action against offshore sportsbooks.

Stronger Enforcement, Higher Engagement
Over the past year, 14 states have issued cease and desist orders against illegal sportsbooks, forcing some operators to stop accepting U.S. customers. According to GeoComply’s data, states that took such measures saw active player growth rates nearly double compared to those that did not.
This trend highlights how legal action helps drive players away from illegal sites and into the regulated market. As more consumers opt for licensed sportsbooks offering better security and responsible gaming protections, states benefit from higher tax revenues and a more sustainable betting ecosystem.
Anna Sainsbury, CEO and Co-Founder of GeoComply, emphasized the direct correlation between regulatory enforcement and increased engagement on legal platforms. She stated, “More fans are choosing legal sportsbooks, driven by stronger consumer protections and enhanced user experiences. This means even greater tax revenues to support local communities and promote responsible growth while reducing reliance on illegal sportsbooks.”
Super Bowl Betting Reaches Record Levels
GeoComply also reported impressive engagement numbers from Super Bowl LIX, showcasing how legal sports betting continues to gain traction.
- New Orleans saw a major spike in activity, with 535,000 geolocation transactions from over 60,400 active accounts. This marked a 150% increase in transactions and a 220% surge in users compared to the previous week.
- Across all regulated states, over 724,400 new online wagering accounts were created during Super Bowl weekend.
- At its peak, GeoComply recorded 14,300 geolocation transactions per second just before halftime, when the Eagles scored their third touchdown.
Sainsbury reiterated the company’s commitment to providing a reliable and scalable infrastructure that supports millions of bettors during peak events. “We’re proud to power the infrastructure that allows fans to participate in one of the most important sporting events of the year, and we’ll continue innovating to meet the ever-growing demands of this dynamic market,” she said.
