The Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) has named Alana Zimmer as its new Executive Director. Zimmer officially stepped into the role on Thursday, October 30. She will be responsible for administering and coordinating all activities required for the commission to fulfill its duties. A primary focus of her work will be protecting the integrity of all gaming operations across the state.

Zimmer Takes Leadership Role

As the FGCC Executive Director, Zimmer will direct the regulatory body’s enforcement and administrative functions. Her core mission, outlined by Section 16.712 of Florida Statutes, is to maintain the integrity of licensed gaming activities. This includes preventing and eliminating illegal gambling operations statewide.

Zimmer has roots in the state, having attended Florida State University in Tallahassee. She brings prior regulatory experience to the position. Before joining the FGCC, she served as a commissioner for the Kansas Lottery between 2016 and 2019. She was also the executive director of the Kansas City Automotive Museum.

Focus on Modernization and Responsible Gaming

Zimmer’s experience with the Kansas Lottery is expected to shape her approach in Florida. During her time in Kansas, she helped modernize lottery offerings and worked to expand the state’s commitments to responsible gambling (RG). She believes this background will translate well into her new position.

She has expressed a commitment to improving and expanding responsible gambling programs across Florida. Zimmer plans to work closely with the Governor’s office and the state legislature to achieve these goals.

FGCC Vice Chair Julie Imanuel Brown formally welcomed Zimmer back to Florida. Brown stated her confidence that the new director will focus on eliminating illegal gambling while supporting the state’s businesses and residents. The appointment signals a clear effort by the FGCC to strengthen its oversight of all gaming activity.
