FanDuel Sets Super Bowl Betting Record
FanDuel had a historic Super Bowl LIX, setting new records for betting activity and user engagement. The sportsbook handled 16.6 million bets, placed by approximately 3 million active users. At its busiest moment, FanDuel processed an astonishing 70,000 bets per minute.

A Wide Range of Betting Options
Bettors wagered on various aspects of the game, far beyond simply picking the winner. Popular bets included total points, individual player performances, and even prop bets tied to pop culture and promotions.
One of the biggest attractions was “Kick of Destiny 3”, a free-to-play contest where users predicted which Manning brother—Eli or Peyton—would win a field goal challenge. Those who backed Eli Manning shared a $10 million pool in bonus bets.
Popular Bets and Unexpected Outcomes
The betting public overwhelmingly backed a high-scoring game, with most users placing bets on the total score exceeding 48.5 points. Other widely backed bets included:
- Xavier Worthy gaining more than 5.5 rushing yards
- Dallas Goedert surpassing 52.5 receiving yards
A staggering 99% of bettors took the “over” in these markets.
However, the final score of 40-22 in favor of the Philadelphia Eagles defied many of the most popular bets. Widespread predictions for a closer contest, such as Chiefs 38-Eagles 35 or Chiefs 27-Eagles 24, didn’t materialize.
A Costly Outcome for FanDuel
While Super Bowl LIX was a win for engagement, it wasn’t necessarily a financial success for sportsbooks. FanDuel and other operators tend to benefit when favorites lose or when games stay low-scoring. The Eagles’ dominant victory and the high point total meant that many of the public’s popular bets paid out—resulting in losses for the book.
Despite the unfavorable game outcome, FanDuel saw strong performance in prop betting markets. One notable bettor turned $10 into $7,612.63 by correctly hitting an eight-leg same-game parlay featuring Saquon Barkley. While Barkley didn’t win Super Bowl MVP, his popularity among bettors helped FanDuel offset some of its losses.
Despite the financial hit, FanDuel’s parent company, Flutter, saw a slight stock increase, indicating that investors remain confident in the company’s long-term strategy.
