Evolution Fined $25,000 by Pennsylvania Gaming Board

20.12.2024

Evolution Gaming has been fined $25,000 by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) for failing to record surveillance footage at its Philadelphia studio. The penalty, announced during a public meeting on December 18, 2024, stems from a two-day period when the studio was unable to save video recordings due to a server failure.

A History of Compliance Issues

The fine is related to the fact that, while the live cameras covering the studio’s 14 gaming tables remained operational, a computer server malfunction prevented the required recording and storage of footage, which is a violation of Pennsylvania’s gaming regulations. The state’s Gaming Act mandates strict monitoring and recording protocols for all licensed operators.

This is not Evolution’s first penalty in Pennsylvania this year. In August 2024, the PGCB imposed a $7,500 fine on the company following a security breach at the same studio. During that incident, an unidentified individual accessed restricted areas, including an employee dressing room.

The security lapse prompted Evolution to reevaluate its protocols and reorganize the studio’s layout to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Pennsylvania’s Tough Stance on Gambling Regulation

Pennsylvania is widely recognized for its rigorous approach to gambling regulation. The PGCB actively enforces compliance and imposes penalties on operators that fail to meet its standards, as seen with the fines levied against Evolution.

The board not only monitors casinos and online gaming providers but also prioritizes player protection and ensures adherence to the law. A key part of this effort is safeguarding minors through initiatives like the “Don’t Gamble with Kids” campaign and penalizing adults who leave children unattended in casinos by placing them on exclusion lists.
