29.07.2024

E. Sequoyah Simermeyer, former chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), has been appointed to the board of directors of the National Native American Hall of Fame.

Legislative and Corporate Expertise

Simermeyer, who resigned from his position as NIGC chairman in February 2024, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various capacities within the NIGC since 2015. His previous roles included associate commissioner and director of the office of self-regulation.

In addition to his tenure at the NIGC, Simermeyer has provided advisory services to members of the US Senate, offering him a perspective on legislative matters affecting Native American communities.

Currently, he serves as Vice President for Strategic Partnerships at FanDuel, where he leverages his expertise to foster key alliances in the gaming industry.

Commitment to Honoring Native American Achievements

James Parker Shield, founder and CEO of the National Native American Hall of Fame, expressed his enthusiasm for Simermeyer’s appointment “In the sports world, I would say that we have added a first-round draft pick to our already loaded board of directors,” said Parker Shield.

Simermeyer himself emphasized the importance of his new role, stating, “I am honored to have the opportunity to support a national organization with an important purpose – honoring Native American achievement in our modern society.”

Following Simermeyer’s departure, Sharon M. Avery has been named acting chair of the NIGC. Avery, who had already been appointed to a three-year term as associate commissioner, will serve in both capacities until a permanent chair is selected.
