DraftKings Opens Retail Sportsbook at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino
DraftKings Inc. officially opened its new retail sportsbook at the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino on Friday, November 14. The launch, celebrated during the property’s four-year anniversary, is the result of a partnership between DraftKings, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and LionGrove, LLC. This launch brings DraftKings’ regulated sports betting experience to Puerto Rico’s enthusiastic sports community.
New Venue and Future Online Launch
The new retail sportsbook at the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino features a dedicated sports lounge, sports betting kiosks, and an over-the-counter ticket window. The opening event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a ceremonial first bet placed by Yankees legend Jorge Posada.
The launch expands DraftKings’ operational footprint, adding Puerto Rico to the 28 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Ontario, Canada, where the company currently offers regulated sports betting.
Paul Liberman, DraftKings President of Operations, emphasized the move’s fit with the island’s culture. “Puerto Rico has an incredible sports culture and a deep connection to entertainment,” Liberman said. He added that the company is thrilled to provide eligible customers with a safe, responsible, and seamless way to engage with their favorite sports.
Beyond the retail location, DraftKings and Foxwoods plan to introduce the company’s online sportsbook in the coming months. This digital launch remains pending all necessary licensure and regulatory approvals in the territory.
Partnership Elevates Entertainment Destination
The Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, which marked its four-year anniversary this November, is a key component of the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel complex. The casino is the result of a partnership formed in 2021 between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the owners and operators of Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, and LionGrove LLC, a hospitality investment and management firm.
Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, highlighted the expansion. “The addition of the DraftKings retail sportsbook marks another exciting milestone as we deliver new experiences to guests and sports fans in Puerto Rico,” Butler said, noting the importance of building on the casino’s legacy of innovation.
Andro Nodarse-Leon, Founder and CEO of LionGrove LLC, agreed that the sportsbook further elevates the casino as a world-class entertainment destination. The opening reinforces the partners’ commitment to creating exceptional experiences for guests visiting from Puerto Rico and around the globe.
