DC Sets Record $58.1 Million Sports Betting Handle in September

DC’s sports betting market hit a new high in September 2024 with a record $58.1 million handle.

Year-over-Year Growth

September’s result is 305.5% higher than last year and 44.8% more than August’s. The district also saw a record $8.2 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) which is 82.2% more than last month and 331.6% more than September 2023.

FanDuel led the way with $4.4 million in GGR from a $30.5 million handle. DraftKings was second with $2.1 million in revenue from $4.9 million in bets, while Caesars had $1 million in revenue from $5.8 million in wagers.

BetMGM had $352,731 in revenue from a $6 million handle and newcomer Fanatics, which launched in September, had $119,142 in revenue from $728,539 in bets.

Gambet to Caesars Transition

The DC Lottery’s former white-label platform, Gambet, had $179,850 in revenue from $826,405 in bets. But Gambet’s remaining betting kiosks will be replaced by Caesars so the landscape is changing.

Until mid-July FanDuel was the only online sportsbook in DC through its deal with the DC Lottery. But now with the 2025 budget the market is open to more competition so others can enter and grow the market.
