Colorado Regulators Remove Over 100 Betting Markets Ahead of 2024 Football Season

The Colorado Division of Gaming (CDG) has removed 145 betting markets, citing concerns that these wagers were too “negative” or “concerning.”

Colorado Division of Gaming Tightens Wagering Rules

The CDG’s decision was communicated to operators earlier this week without prior consultation, according to a report from the Fair Play Initiative, a sports betting and fantasy research organization.

The rejected markets span across several major sports, including golf, football, and baseball. Notably, the CDG has targeted wagers that focus on negative outcomes or underperformance by players or teams.

Industry Reactions

Jeffrey Benson, Director of Operations at Circa Sports, expressed frustration over the restrictions, stating that the sportsbook was unable to offer certain markets as it would like due to the CDG’s decisions.

Benson also pointed out that operators were not given a clear explanation for the changes at the time of disclosure.

While specific negative markets have been removed, the prices or limits on the positive versions of those markets—such as “Player to Score Anytime Touchdown”—remain unaffected.
