Betsafe Sportsbook to Cease U.S. Operations in September
Betsafe Sportsbook has informed its customers that it will permanently cease its online operations on September 30.
Impact on Colorado Market
Betsafe’s departure will reduce the number of sports betting operators in Colorado, one of its primary markets, from 19 to 17. Colorado is known for having the highest number of sports betting operators in any U.S. state.
The closure will follow a phased shutdown, with deposits and new account registrations stopping on September 6, and all wagering ceasing by September 16. Players have until September 27 to withdraw their funds before accounts are closed.
Betsafe’s North American Operations
While Betsafe’s U.S. operations were limited to Colorado, the brand also operates in Canada and recently expanded to South America by obtaining a license in Peru.
The sportsbook initially entered the U.S. market in March 2022 through a partnership with Dostal Alley Casino, aiming to leverage Betsson’s proprietary sportsbook technology.
Despite these ambitions, the intense competition in the U.S. has forced Betsafe to reconsider its position.
