Betfred to Exit Arizona, Continuing Its U.S. Market Pullback

20.09.2024

Betfred will cease its mobile sports betting services in Arizona starting November 4.

Competitive Market Forces Push Operators Out

The decision is part of a broader trend for the U.K.-based company, which had already pulled out of Colorado in August, following earlier withdrawals from Maryland and Ohio.

Betfred now maintains a presence in only a handful of states, with mobile operations in Iowa, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and physical sportsbooks in Louisiana, Nevada, and Washington.

On the other hand, Arizona remains one of the top markets for sports betting in the U.S., yet Betfred is the fourth sportsbook operator to leave the state this year, following similar exits by WynnBET, Unibet, and Betway.

Performance Struggles in Arizona

Since entering Arizona’s market in early 2022, Betfred faced difficulties in securing a significant foothold, as recent numbers for the first half of 2024 show a decline in wagers.

As Betfred exits, its license, which is tied to the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, could soon be available for a new operator.
