Arizona Department of Gaming Warns Against Rising Gaming-Related Scams

29.08.2024

The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has issued a public service announcement to warn residents, visitors, and tribal communities about an increase in gaming-related scams across the state.

Rise in Scams Targeting Gaming Patrons

The ADG has alerted the public about a growing trend of scammers posing as representatives of various gaming authorities to steal personal information and money.

These fraudsters have been impersonating officials from the ADG, the National Indian Gaming Commission, the Indian Gaming Association, and even the Publisher’s Clearing House.

The scams typically involve false claims of winning sweepstakes or contests, or they might issue fake alerts about delinquent taxes or fees, urging recipients to make immediate payments.

Protective Measures from the Arizona Attorney General

In response to these scams, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office has provided a set of guidelines to help protect individuals from falling victim.

Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office emphasizes the importance of verifying the identity of the caller and the legitimacy of the organization they claim to represent. Residents are advised to be particularly cautious of unsolicited calls, especially those that involve requests for financial transactions.

Key recommendations from the Attorney General’s office include:

  • Verify Caller Information: Always confirm the caller’s identity, including the organization they claim to represent and their official contact information.
  • Exercise Caution: Be skeptical of any unsolicited calls or communications, particularly those requesting personal or financial information.
  • Secure Personal Information: Avoid sharing sensitive information over the phone, and refrain from engaging in financial transactions, especially those involving cryptocurrency, without thorough verification.

The ADG and the Attorney General’s Office urge everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities to help prevent these scams from spreading further.
