Americans Set to Legally Wager $1.39 Billion on Super Bowl LIX
Super Bowl LIX is set to break records in more ways than one. According to the American Gaming Association (AGA), Americans will legally wager a record $1.39 billion on this year’s championship game.
Legal Sports Betting Continues to Expand
The rise of legal sports betting reflects shifting public attitudes and expanding access. Bill Miller, AGA President, and CEO, emphasized that the Super Bowl unites fans like no other event.
“No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year’s record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal. This figure underscores the positive impact of the legal market—from protecting consumers to generating tax revenue that benefits communities across the country—while enhancing the game experience for all,” he said.
More Americans than ever support legal sports betting. The AGA’s 2024 American Attitudes Survey found that 75% of Americans favor legal sports wagering in their state, while 90% see it as a valid form of entertainment.
Since the 2018 repeal of PASPA, 38 states and Washington, D.C. have launched legal betting markets, giving millions of people access to safe, regulated options.
AGA Promotes Responsible Betting
With Super Bowl LIX driving record-breaking betting activity, the AGA remains committed to responsible gaming initiatives.
The association has partnered with former NFL star and college football analyst Mark Ingram II to promote safer betting habits. Ingram will appear on Radio Row at Super Bowl LIX as part of the “Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™” campaign, encouraging fans to wager legally and responsibly.
