Michigan’s Online Gaming and Sports Betting Hit $331.2 Million in January Revenue

Michigan’s online gaming and sports betting industry had a strong start to the year, generating $331.2 million in total revenue for January.

Record iGaming Revenue and Sports Betting Performance

Michigan’s iGaming sector hit an all-time high with $248.2 million in gross revenue, continuing its upward trend. Online sports betting added $83.0 million, bringing the total gross revenue from both industries to $331.2 million.

After adjustments, the total adjusted gross revenue (AGR) reached $287.9 million, with $233.1 million from iGaming and $54.8 million from online sports betting. Sports bettors in the state wagered a total of $555.2 million through online sportsbooks.

Michigan benefited significantly from gaming taxes, collecting $46.8 million in January. Of that amount, $43.7 million came from iGaming, while $3.1 million came from online sports betting.

Detroit’s three casinos contributed $12.8 million in city taxes and service fees, with $11.8 million from iGaming and $1.0 million from online sports betting. Meanwhile, tribal gaming operators reported $5.0 million in payments to their governing bodies.

January’s sports betting figures were influenced by the Detroit Lions’ unexpected playoff elimination. The Lions lost to the Washington Commanders, a game that proved profitable for sportsbooks.

FanDuel Leads the Market

Among sportsbooks, FanDuel dominated the Michigan market, handling $218.3 million in bets and generating $40.6 million in revenue. Other major players also saw strong activity:

  • FanDuel (MotorCity): $227.3 million in handle, $41.8 million in revenue
  • DraftKings (Bay Mills): $151.7 million in handle, $22.0 million in revenue
  • BetMGM (MGM Grand Detroit): $81.6 million in handle, $10.7 million in revenue
  • Fanatics (Lac Vieux Desert): $32.8 million in handle, $4.3 million in revenue
  • ESPN Bet (Greektown): $32.2 million in handle, $3.5 million in revenue
  • Caesars (Grand Traverse Band): $30.1 million in handle, $1.7 million in revenue

Smaller operators like BetRivers, Eagle, FireKeepers, Four Winds, betParx, and SI Sportsbook contributed lower volumes, with FireKeepers and SI Sportsbook reporting losses for the month.
