17.02.2025

Kansas sportsbooks kicked off 2025 with a new all-time record for betting handle. Bettors wagered $301.8 million in January, a 26% increase from the same month last year and surpassing the previous record of $291 million set in November 2024.

Strong Revenue Growth and Tax Impact

Kansas sportsbooks generated $28.2 million in gross revenue, a 35% year-over-year increase and the fourth-highest monthly total since the market launched in September 2022.

After deductions for promotions and other adjustments, taxable revenue stood at $16.1 million, up 12.7% from January 2024. This led to $1.6 million in tax revenue for the state, $183,000 more than the previous year.

The state distributes its sports betting tax revenue primarily to a fund aimed at attracting professional sports teams, with the remainder going into the general budget.

As in most states, mobile betting dominated the Kansas market. Online sportsbooks accounted for $293.2 million in handle and $27.6 million in revenue, while retail sportsbooks brought in $8.6 million in wagers and $530,000 in revenue.
