Michigan Gaming Control Board Urges Responsible Betting Ahead of Super Bowl LIX

With Super Bowl LIX approaching, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) is reminding fans to bet responsibly and only use licensed sportsbooks. The game, set for February 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, is expected to drive record-breaking betting activity across the U.S.

Super Bowl Betting Expected to Set Records

This year, over 225 million Americans across 40 states and territories will have access to legal Super Bowl betting. Industry estimates suggest sportsbooks could generate more than $100 million in revenue.

Additionally, the total betting handle in regulated markets may exceed $1.5 billion—a 15% increase from last year.

“Each year, the Super Bowl unites millions of fans, football lovers, and bettors around the world,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said. “As we come together to watch the game, let’s remember the importance of responsible betting to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.”

Key Responsible Gaming Tips

To help bettors make informed choices, the MGCB has issued several tips:

  • Set a Budget: Decide how much you can afford to wager and stick to that limit.
  • Bet for Fun, Not Profit: Sports betting is entertainment, not a way to make money. Wager only what you can comfortably lose.
  • Understand the Rules: Learn about different bet types, odds, and sportsbook policies before placing a wager.
  • Use Legal Operators: Stick to licensed sportsbooks to avoid risks like identity theft, lost deposits, or unpaid winnings.

Michigan residents betting online can use self-imposed limits on deposits, wagers, and playtime. Any adjustments require a 24-hour waiting period.

The MGCB also offers self-exclusion programs, including the Responsible Gaming Database for online gambling and the Disassociated Persons List for Detroit’s three commercial casinos: MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
