Boyd Interactive Acquires New Jersey Operator Resorts Digital
Boyd Interactive has acquired Resorts Digital, the online gaming division of Resorts Atlantic City. This announcement was made by the property’s President, Mark Giannantonio, on September 23. The purchase price remains undisclosed, but the deal was finalized earlier, on September 1.
Potential for Growth
Mark Giannantonio highlighted the potential benefits of the acquisition, stating, “We are confident that this transaction will propel Resorts Digital’s proven success over the past decade to a new level through the scale of Boyd Interactive and its market-leading platform.”
Boyd Interactive also emphasized the alignment of the acquisition with their broader business strategy. In their statement, the company noted, “The acquisition is consistent with Boyd Gaming’s strategy of building a profitable regional iGaming business integrated with our existing nationwide portfolio.”
They added, “New Jersey has long been one of the nation’s leading iGaming states, and we look forward to further growing our presence in that state’s online gaming market in partnership with Resorts Casino in Atlantic City.”
Continued Operations and Brand Collaboration
Following the acquisition, Resorts Digital will continue to operate under the existing sports betting and online gambling licenses held by Resorts Casino. Resorts will maintain its partnerships with several major iGaming entities, including DraftKings, Penn Gaming, PokerStars, and ESPN Bet. Additionally, Boyd Interactive gains control of ResortsCasino.com, MoheganSunCasino.com, and an unused sports betting skin as part of the transaction.
The two companies plan to cross-promote their brands, with Resorts Casino promoting ResortsCasino.com within its physical property. Similarly, the online platform will highlight the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City to its digital audience.
Resorts Digital’s Strong Performance
According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Resorts Digital has performed exceptionally well, generating over $573 million in revenue from online gambling during the first eight months of 2024.
This far exceeds the $109 million earned by the physical Resorts Casino. Boyd Interactive is positioned to leverage this success as part of its growth strategy in the iGaming sector.
