Kansas Sportsbooks See August Betting Surge Despite Revenue Dip

August proved to be a strong month for sports betting in Kansas, with the six active sportsbooks in the state reporting a total handle of $146.97 million.

Revenue Decline Despite Betting Increase

Those numbers represent a 20.4% increase from July’s $122 million and a 55.7% surge compared to August 2023.

While the betting handle grew, the state’s sportsbooks saw a notable dip in revenue. In August, Kansas sportsbooks generated $6.57 million in gaming revenue, marking a 28.6% decline from July’s $9.2 million.

This reduction in revenue led to a lower tax contribution for the state, with the sports betting tax bill dropping to $657,288 in August, down from $919,947 the previous month—a direct consequence of the revenue decline.

DraftKings Leads the Market

DraftKings Sportsbook maintained its leadership in the Kansas market, capturing the largest share of the handle with $67.68 million in bets for August.

FanDuel followed with a respectable $43.79 million, while other competitors, including BetMGM, ESPN BET, Fanatics, and Caesars Sportsbook, each reported handle figures under $11 million.
