Illinois Sports Betting Handle Reaches $848.1M in June
In June, Illinois sports betting saw the total handle reaching $848.1 million, a 27.4% increase compared to the same month last year.

June ends a nine-month streak where wagers consistently exceeded the $1 billion threshold and marks a 16.9% decline from May 2024, when the handle was $1.02 billion.
The vast majority of bets, totaling $823.7 million, were placed online, with only $24.4 million wagered in person.
Online betting accounted for $92.5 million of the AGR, with retail betting contributing $2.1 million. The hold for online betting was 11.2%, compared to 8.6% for retail betting.
Bets on professional sports dominated, accounting for $839.6 million of the total handle, with $815.5 million staked online and $24.2 million at retail locations.
An additional $7.2 million was bet on college sports, while motor racing attracted $1.3 million in wagers.
Market Leaders
FanDuel continued to lead the Illinois sports betting market in June. Players staked $280.5 million through FanDuel, and with a strong 15.3% hold, the operator generated $42.9 million in revenue.
Despite the $9.1 million revenue adjustment, DraftKings followed closely behind with a higher handle of $325.1 million but a slightly lower hold of 12.1%, resulting in $39.4 million in revenue.
Other notable performers included Rush Street Interactive’s BetRivers, which generated $5.8 million in revenue, ahead of ESPN Bet’s $3.8 million and BetMGM’s $3.7 million. Fanatics also reported $3.6 million in AGR.
New Progressive Tax Rate
June was the last month of Illinois’ fiscal year, with the 15% AGR tax generating $13.8 million in revenue for the state.
Starting July 1, this tax rate has been replaced by a progressive tax system, under which the highest-earning operators, such as FanDuel and DraftKings, face a tax rate of 40% on revenue exceeding $200 million.
