Flutter Entertainment Appoints Mark Shaw as Director of Global Payments Strategy
Flutter Entertainment, the world’s largest online sports betting and iGaming operator, has appointed Mark Shaw as its new Director of Global Payments Strategy.
Shaw brings a wealth of experience from the payments, finance, and technology sectors, having previously worked at prominent companies such as Visa, Barclays, TSB, and most recently, Spotify.
Professional Background
Mark Shaw’s career in the payments and finance industry began in 2003 at Barclays. He moved to Visa in 2007, where he served as Senior Manager of Group Strategy and later as Vice President of Mobile Payments Strategy.
After his tenure at Visa, Shaw joined Vocalink as a Strategy Lead, and then moved to TSB in 2018 as Head of Strategy and Design – Payments. In October 2019, he became Director of Payments Strategy at Spotify, where he worked until earlier this year.
In his new role at Flutter, Shaw has already started leading the company’s payments operations. Announcing his new position on LinkedIn, Shaw expressed his enthusiasm for working with Flutter’s diverse and innovative brands, which include FanDuel, Paddy Power, Sportsbet, Betfair, PokerStars, and Sisal.
“After leaving Spotify earlier in the year, I’m pleased to say I’ve started up (and am now one month into) a new role as Director of Global Payments Strategy for Flutter Entertainment Plc,” Shaw wrote. “As a Group, Flutter operates some of the world’s most innovative, diverse, and distinctive sports betting and gaming brands as part of a globally federated business model – the scale, growth, and diversity of the business is incredible.”
Strategic Objectives
Shaw aims to enhance the growth and efficiency of Flutter’s payment systems across its global operations. He expressed excitement about working with local payment teams to build the future of payments for the group.
“I’m delighted to be working with the awesome local payment teams to build out the future for payments across the group and look forward to enhancing the growth and efficiency of the business,” Shaw stated.
Shaw acknowledged the differences between his new role at Flutter and his previous position at Spotify, but welcomed the new challenges and opportunities for learning. “It’s a big change from Spotify in so many ways, but new challenges and learning are the only constants in life, so it’s time to get stuck in and help ‘Change The Game’,” he concluded.
