North Carolina Education Lottery Surpasses $1 Billion in Digital Instant Sales
In November, the North Carolina Education Lottery introduced mobile scratch-off games, also known as digital instants. This initiative aimed to mirror the success seen in other states and boost the Lottery’s popularity and sales. The projection proved accurate as these mobile scratch-offs quickly gained traction statewide.
Milestone Achievement in Sales
The North Carolina Education Lottery recently announced that sales from its new online lottery games have surpassed $1 billion.
This milestone was reported during a Wednesday meeting, with officials noting that by the end of May, digital instant game sales had reached $943 million. Given the continued growth into June, the total sales have now exceeded the $1 billion mark.
A substantial portion of these sales—68%—were conducted via the Lottery’s mobile application, highlighting the convenience and appeal of mobile gaming options.
This strong performance in the digital realm has been a crucial factor in the Lottery’s overall success.
Broader Lottery Sales Growth
The overall sales for the North Carolina Education Lottery reached over $4.8 billion through the end of May, marking an impressive year-over-year growth of $857 million.
Scratch-off lottery games remained the most popular, accounting for 55% of total sales, while digital instant games contributed 19%.
Greg Bowers, the deputy executive director for finance at the North Carolina Education Lottery, emphasized the positive impact of digital instant games on the Lottery’s performance. “The launch of digital instant games has been the catalyst this year to allow us to post year-over-year revenue gains,“ said Bowers.
